Default Rear Window Latch

Regarding this item, I've tried 2 of these by Dorman products. The first one was pretty much brittle out the package and fell apart the first time I tried to snap the rear window together.
That was part number 76989. See part here:http://www.dormanproducts.com/p-9514-76989.aspx

The second one I tried appears to not be wide enough for my truck even though two different latches come in the box and one appears to be the same exact part as 76989. This was part number 76993. See part here: http://www.dormanproducts.com/p-16396-76993.aspx

Is the rear window latch a dealer only part or am I missing something? It would be nice to get it right. I did manage to jerry rig 76993 to the point to where it does hold the two windows together. Do I just need to take a trip to the stealership or order from an online Ford OEM parts distributor for this part?

It was brittle probably from sitting for 15 or so years.

yep I am wondering the same question, my completely broke off and I think it would be easier just to get a new window and install it, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/80-96...#ht_500wt_1183

They are not that hard to replace, not like the adhesive installed windows they use today.

I emailed fastpartsnetwork.com for a quote on an OEM rear window latch and they quoted me $8.29. I wish I would've done this the first time around. I'll be ordering mine from here. They also gave me a good quote on an OEM dipstick as well.

But how will you install it? With tape, glue...? I'm really stumped, but maybe your broken latch doesn't look as bad as mine.

A Phillips head screwdriver should be all you need. At least that's all that's needed on my truck.
