Default rear end gear change price

Hey buds, I'm thinking about changing out gears in the rear end to 4.10s and I'm wondering what kind of price I should roughly expect from a shop to swap them out, with me providing the gears for them. I would do it myself but I just dont have the experience to attempt it confidently thanks in advance guys!

Probably about a 3-4 hour job, so looking at ~$300. If you want all of the pinion, carrier and axle bearings/seals replaced it would probably cost a little more. If it were me I would take advantage of replacing everything at once if it hasn't ever been serviced before.

If you call up a shop and ask them how much to do a complete rear end service on your truck and explain what you want, they'll be able to give you a quote for labor pretty quickly.

I was thinking of this as well and broncograveyard has a kit for ~500. It's "open diff" as opposed to my LS. Not off roading so I don't think it'll make a difference to me. So thinking about 4 hours labor huh?

Does one need the FULL rebuild kit or just replace the "gears"? I'm thinking once that is open, might as well rebuild it?

When I look at broncograveyard, I don't really know what "pieces" to get just to change the gearing. And not experienced enough to get the other pieces.. you know....the "just in case pieces" that the thing I ordered will need.

When ordering your gears you do not need to get a new differential carrier as the new ring gear will fit on your existing carrier . Therefore that will save you money and you will still have your limited slip rear.

So technically all I need to order is something like this to bring to someone who can do it?

yes, but be aware, many shops will not install a "part" unless sourced by them.

In the event the part is not correct, or has an issue....the shop is not going to be pleased.

Check with your shop, before you assume they will do this.

Also reminder that if you have 4 wheel drive you need to change the gears in the front differential as well to match your rear gears.
