Default Rear abs light on dash

Ok so the good news is I got my brake system fixed!! I had the shop do a complete rear brake job. But Now abs light is on. They told me that there are 3 parts to this system and one must have failed. So I don't have abs. I am fixing dang near everything else, so may as well fix this as well. Andyobe know where to start? This will be a diy job. Sensor bad?

the sensor could be bad, or there could be a real problem. The sensor sits on top of you rear differential. It could be as simple as they didnt plug it in. But if that sensor is bad, you should probably have problems with the speedometer, as the sensor is your vehicle speed sensor also. From reading other threads on this forum it seems like it could just be low on fluid or have a brake light out also. Do a search of the forum and you'll find plenty of info.

I had an F250 with that problem that I thought about fixing. There should be an ABS module on the frame rail, its not real big, that can go out or theres a sensor (I think its the one that goes into the pumpkin). I was told that the sensor is a pretty common failure point. That or you don't have enough black electrical tape covering your dash...

Not sure what the third part is. I sold the truck before I fixed it. Mine was causing my rears to lock up with the SLIGHTEST touch of the brake pedal at low speeds. It is kind of embarassing when your neighbor asks you why you skid down the street every morning.

That skidding problem was fixed on mine... the po swapped in the rear end for an 86 bronco axle without abs and bypassed the whole thing. Installed a proportioning valve. I had to go back and tweak the brake adjustments and all, but it works fine now.... except my light is now on because I have no abs.... I should pull that bulb out of the dash one of these days.

Maybe they didn't bleed the ABS unit. It has a bleeder screw on it too.

The sensor on the rear is known as the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) It's a very good possibility that it's bad. luckily it takes a whole 5 minutes (that's being liberal) to change it out. here is the VSS mounted on the rearend.

Here is a picture of the ABS sensor.

Default Rear ABS Sensor

I checked the local parts store and they don't stock it. Is the dealership the only option for this or are their trusted places online?
Thanks
