Default Pulled a couple codes

1993 F150 XLT 5.8 140,000+ I have had my truck since april great truck love it. I wanted to pull codes, so i bought a Equus 3145 digital display from Tradervar.com (in case anyone is in the market) 29.99 free shipping to see what i came up with.

-173- HEGO (HO2S) sensor fault/rich
-628- Excessive converter clutch slippage

so the 173 i'm pretty sure is the O2 sensor which i will replace. The 628 im not too sure about i was wondering if i could get a little help with it. If anyone out there knows what i can do to get it fixed. Both of these codes came from the memory the KOEO was clear. So thanks for any help offered!

Yes, the 173 is your O2 sensor and does need to be replaced. 628 means that your torque converter is slipping...what does your tranny fluid look like? You could change the fluid in the trans (including draining the torque converter) and that might help. Did you clear the KAM after you pulled the codes?

the tranny fluid is good it got changed when i bought the truck back in april, its a little high though. i did not clear the codes is that what your asking? i put some trans tune in it just like a half a bottle. I read that this is a commom problem with these trannys guess i'll be droping a little money into it. i only notice it when im accelerateing from like 50mph and i dont step on it alot maybe 25% it flutters. Like its not engaging and i have to press the gas a little harder or hit the O/D and turn it off. Can i perform the Key On Engine On test or do i have to fix the TC first? thanks

If that's an E4OD hen yes that is a common problem......most of the time people just replace the TC and it fixes it. Yes the KAM(Keep Alive Memory) needs to be reset...basically just unhook your battery for 15 minutes.....after that drive it around a bit then do both the KOER and KOEO.

alright so i disconnected the battery for 20 min and re-ran all the tests it all came back clear 111 then 10 and then 111 again, and for the koeo the same 111. im very happy with my truck and knowing that it is clear of all codes makes me feel even better! althought i still will be changing the O2 sensor

If it's really a problem the code will come back.
