Default Project?

I found a guy selling an '87 4.9 with 356K KM's(approx 221K Miles) on it and I have a 5 speed transmission out of a 4x4 '91 Explorer. Should I run into any troubles with that combo or am I good to go?

Unsure of what I'd put it into, maybe an explorer? Or would it be easier/ cheaper in an F-150?

I work 5 days, then 6 days a week, so I'll have 3 days off in two weeks, so it'll be a slow project

What is your input? What should I put these in?

I haven't bought it yet, but I offered him $50 What would you consider a decent offer for a High Mileage 4.9?

I know those i6s go for a long time but that's scarily close. If you can afford to rebuild it, then drop it into an f150 or something after a rebuild. Not sure if an explorer trans will bolt to that I6 but I'm no expert on those SUVs

$200 minimum for a running engine. No more than $100 if you can't hear it run.

It's out. He put in a 351 into the F-150.

I'll keep it under a $100. I need a project like this. Aren't the 5 speeds the same? A little weaker, since it's from '91, if I remember correctly. Oh wait, maybe it's from a '93. It's my old roommates transmission that he left after moving. I'll have to give him a call to find out

'92-'96 are better than '88-'91. Ranger and F150 are different, so I guess Explorer is different too.

Damn. Looks like I'll have to pass on this one then. I'll look for a whole truck, instead of piece by piece
