Default Problems

Alright, so I've just changed my plugs and wires on my 87 F150 4.9, I took it for a test drive and it acted like it was out of gas. It was nowhere near it. It almost feels like the engine is taking in too much gas, or too much air. I'm not sure what to do now. I'm going to go out tomorrow and check to see if the firing order is correct, but what should I do if that doesn't fix the problem?

Also, what would I use to check the codes? I'm pretty new to Fords, and this is the first vehicle I've owned.

you mentioned firing sequence.if its not correct, that very well is the problem,but....if it's correct,i bet you a dollar it's your map sensor, fuel pump or fuel filter.one of the three.

checking codes is easy as pie.need help, let me know.ill guide you along.

Okay, well the guy I bought it from said he replaced the fuel pump, and the fuel filter looks pretty new. Where would the map sensor be located so I can check it?

If you are on your phone go back to the threads and click the stickies tab at the top. "how-to: retrieve trouble codes- obd1"

If on your computer it's a permanent thread at the top of the thread listing
