Problem
ive got a question if anyone can help. when you crank up the truck it idles high not super high but more than it should. and when you try to put it in gear it bogs down and dies everytime. what could be causing it to do this. im out of ideas. so if you think you can help just let me know
Mine does the same thing with the high idle, but being a 5 speed it doesnt die out. But mine will idle high for a minute or two then drop down to normal, my guess is its dropping down when the thermostat opens. If I tap on the gas once or twice after I start it, it makes it drop down faster. It doesn't bother me too much, as it forces me to let the truck warm up, which is better for it anyway. But if I had to guess I'd say maybe the idle air control valve needs to be cleaned out.
thats what i thought it needed new stuff anyway so i did a complete tune up and replaced the iac valve and it helped a little bit but it still dies. it wont idle for more than 2 seconds if you let off the gas at a redlight
i thought it might be that to cus a couple weeks ago my tranny dipstick tube came apart and sprayed tranny fluid on the headers so it caught on fire not a very big one but i didnt catch it in time and it burned vaccuum lines in half. i replaced all of them when i did the tune up and i cant find one that is leaking
another thing is i had a family friend that is a mechanic tell me i should get a idle air control valve spacer. he said you can only get it from ford and it let you make adjustments but i cant find it anywhere even at the dealerships. do yall know anywhere else i can find one
I've never heard of a spacer for it, so I dunno on that one. Does the idle go back to normal after some time running or does it stay like this? If it goes away I wouldn't think its vacuum related.

You can adjust the IAC with the engine at operating temp. w/ your foot on the accelerator and the truck idleing (presumably at a higher than normal RPM). Have someone disconnect the IAC and before the engine stalls, catch it w/ the accelerator and maintain normal idle rpm (650) for two minutes. shut off the truck for 1 min. & plug the IAC back in . Restart and let idle for 2 more mins (at this point you should be settleing in to normal idle RPM). shut off for 1 min. Restart & w/foot on brake, put in gear and let idle for 2 mins. shut off for 1 min. again (For manuals, turn on A/C and lights to provide a load, rather than in gear. this alternate load method can be used on auto's as well). This assumes the idle problem is only related to the IAC & no other contributory problems. Note:If there is no idle change when the IAC is disconnected, it usually means the IAC is toast or a problem w/ the feed to it.) I just Re-read the initial post on this thread. redneck & BGB needs to run an Error code scan & check base timing. This proceedure is sometimes required after timing is bumped up, especially more than 2 degrees. I had to do it once when I went from 10BTDC to 13BTDC & again from 13BTDC to 16BTDC.

another thing it just started doin is goin down the road and letting off the gas when it slows down it surges. it kinda sounds like its downshifting but at the same time it goes faster and slower. unless you put it in nuetral. what could be doin that
