Default Performance for the 300

I know everyone is going to say upgrade to the v8 but I like the 300 motor and I wanted to know what performance parts there are that I can put on my 4.9l. Its an 1989 4.9

This is the most obvious one. The link shows for a V-8, but the steps are identical. Ign. system upgrade, gap stretch, increased base timing advancement. Add a K&N drop in air filter & go all synthetic fluids. http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump (I drive a 302, but don't really have a bad thing to say about 300's. I've owned 4) What it lacks in top end, it more than makes up for on the bottom) After reaching my ticket limit a little early this year, maybe I should be driving a 300! I'll probably get thrashed for this but here goes: 302c.i. - 300c.i. = 2c.i. (1.0067%) + different gear ratio's. You want to pull a large tree stump out of the ground? 300c.i.!

I disconnected the two airtubes from the box and installed a spectre cone filter on each tube. What else? Would it be worth it to put a new cam in it or rebuild the whole thing

Well, on your year & engine, I don't think that was a very good idea to begin with, so you're asking the wrong person.

Rebuild with forged pistons/rods/crank, port head, Supercharge, twin screw preferably. And MAF convert

On a realistic level, I don't think there's really anything major we can do.

Because your engine is MAP. If you notice, the sensor isn't even mounted on the motor, let alone the air intake. It's concerned w/ manifold pressure & is set to function w/ in a certain air flow range. Period! A k&N drop in, takes you up to, but not over that range. Air flow is controlled by air the intake setup before it reaches the engine, thereby self metering the flow allowed to enter the engine (purposeful restriction) . Because your setup more freely allows air flow, in situations like under load, you will lean out. Your engine is not aware of these air increases. MAF is a different story. It actually meters the air flow & can compensate w/ fuel trim. MAP has a very limited ability to compensate.
