Default Oxygen Sensor Woes

Okay so i've had my Black Stallion about six months now and i had emissions done in May and it passes and nothing was near its limits, making you think everything is fine. Well the only oxygen sensor i could find was the one i believe after the Cat, I could never find the first one until i realized it's right on the manifold. Okay so it's not connected to anything and the plastic piece at the end of it is melted, as for where it connects i can't find. So now i know why my "CHECK ENGINE" light flashes only when my foots on the pedal. Usaualy I would just replace it but where is the harness to connect it to?

Its got to be in the area somewhere. Grab a flashlite and start searching. Good luck.

That's what i thought, it has to be seeing as how the wires are only six inches long so it would have to be in that general location, but i can't for the life me find it.

I hate it when that happens to me at work. I will have my buddy come look at it and he'll point it right out to me. I always feel like an idiot when that happens. LOL

Yea i know how that feels. Should I just swallow my pride and take it to a trusted mechanic and just point blank ask him to make me look bad and take 10 seconds to show me then?

It was probably still hooked up at the time but may have melted off by touching the manifold. Find the engine harness near the area and look for a disconnected or melted off wire. Because my wiring diagrams don't distinguish which oxygen sensor is which I can't give you a color to look for. I assume you have a '96 because it's the only one of our years that has more than one oxygen sensor. It actually has 3, so look at the manifold on the other side and see if the wire is near where that one goes into the harness.

no it's actually an 89'. Could this just be a previous owners mistake of putting on a different manifold and leaving an oxygen sensor just to cover the hole?
