No, well yes but you have to have an obd 1 reader. It's easiest to just follow this thread, connecting paperclip or wire to the upper right of the house shaped connector to the STI single connector if your Check Engine Light works, if not follow the directions for hooking up an analog voltmeter.

What's it mean if it will idle at 500 with the iac unplugged but when I plug it back in it goes straight to 2000-2500?

It means that it either needs cleaned (do the connectors too) or replaced. Grab a gasket for it as well they are only $0.99 at most auto parts stores.
