OK Guys- HELP!
I am running out of places to locate an ECM for my 1994 F150.
Ford dealers can't get them, auto zone can't get them, advanced auto parts can't get them.
NAPA can send mine in to be rebuilt, but they can only tell me it will cost $300 to $600, and they can't (or won't) tell me the price until the work is already done. Then, if it is the $600 and I can't afford it, they get to keep it.
I called the only junk yard that is close to my house and the three 1994 F150s they have there are not going to work. One is a stick and the other 2 have the ecm removed already.
Where else can I look for one?? I have the ecm # (it has to end in SC) and my engine calibration #. My dad took the ecm out for me this morning to get the number. It's an automatic transmission with overdrive.
I wouldn't even know how to find farther away junk yards.
Do you know of any online sources who might have them? Any junk yards near your house where you could check? As Dr. Bowtie suggested, I would be willing to work out a deal where I could pay you through paypal for the part plus shipping plus something for going to get it. Those details could be worked out in PM.
If I can't get this stupid thing, I can't drive my truck and have to get another vehicle. I LOVE my truck
I don't want to want to lose it! I have wanted a Ford Truck my whole life, and didn't get it until I was 38. If I have to get another vehicle, I won't be able to afford a truck, so ANY help is MUCH appreciated! Thanks, guys!
EDIT: I just got off the phone with Dale Auto Parts. They *might* be able to order me one, and are going to call back when they find out for sure. They explained to me that reason it is so hard to get one is because people don't always return the old part for the core charge refund. When they don't have any cores, they can't rebuild them. Since Ford, and the suppliers for autozone and advanced auto parts have no ecms, no one will be turning in the old ones, so they will be permanently out
I will let you know what the guy from DAP says when he calls back, but it could be Monday before he calls back.
Edit #2: DAP called back. Their factory was closed for the day so they will have to let me know for sure on Monday. They are about 90% sure they will be able to get one. Here is the difference between them and AZ and AAP: DAP requires you to bring the ecm you are replacing when you make the order. That makes sense then that they would have one. If they require the core along with the deposit, then they will always have one on hand to rebuild. Cross your fingers that they say yes

try www.car-part.com you can search nationwide and most places will ship parts.
www.rockauto.com Doesn't look like they come with the PROM but they have a lot available
Thanks, Sean. I think you are right; I don't think my truck has one. None of the places I talked to mentioned anything about it.
DAP is supposed to call me sometime tomorrow and let me know if they can get the ecm or not.
This thing STINKS!!!!! It's been, what, almost 2 weeks now since it fried? I had to bring it into the house so that I have it here to take to DAP in case they say yeah they can get one (have to turn it in with deposit to order). It was stinky in hubby's trunk, so I put it inside a gallon size ziploc bag, thinking the smell would be contained in the bag.
NOPE. So now it is still in the ziploc bag, which is inside a trash bag and rolled up so no air is in it, then placed inside a second trash bag and rolled up tight, and so far I can't smell it lol
Today I replaced a glass pane in one of the kids' bedroom windows and re-glued the weather stripping on the front door with E6000 adhesive, which doesn't smell too nice itself, and the stink coming from the ecm through the ziploc bag was overpowering the diminishing adhesive smell.

What transmission do you have, if it is the AOD than the manual transmission computer may work. I am not positive on when Ford started to include the transmission controller with the engine ECM. For most of these years there was a separate computer controlling the transmission.
