Default oil pressure 0 on idle and normal at high rpms.

I have been reading all over the internet to try and figure this out. okay when the truck is cold its all good! i have good pressure at idle and at high rpms. when it warms up i have 0 pressure at idle and good pressure at high rpms. i bought a new sending unit and havent installed it yet. im gonna buy a pressure guage tonight if the sending unit doesnt fix it so i can find out my exact pressures. if i do have low pressures when i hook a real gauge up whats my next option? thanks!!

Oil pump and a crank kit, worse case senario. By putting a guage on it will help you a lot. If your pressure is dropping with the guage start throwing some STP or oil additive in it until you get it fixed.

Does that Craftsman kit include an engine hoist?

Lol at JCMS. But yeah gotta pull the motor to change that. The oil pump is in the oil pan.

haha that it doesnt. well i will be able to put a gauge on it tomorrow. so if the gauge says im running low that means the pump and that kit are a must or ill ruin the engine correct.

Eventually it will. I ran mine like that for a few thousand & didn't have problems. I was running high mileage 20w-50 with a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I think it helped some but not all the way. I ended up doin a full rebuild on my 5.0.

Your bearings are starting to wear out. You can band aid it with thicker motor oil such as 5w-40, 10w-40, 15w-40, 5w-50 or 15w-50.

using the thicker oil will bring my pressures up or they will stay the same just allow me to run it longer?

was yours this bad tho? i have to have the rpms around 3 grand to get the needle to even come close to normal pressures. assuming that the gauge is right but i will check that tomorrow. i have read a ton on filters that people use but cant decide whether it will help or not. i bought a fram and sound like i need to take that one back tho.
