Not Starting
Hey My 89 F150 Put In New Ground Cables Now Its Still Not Starting. Noticed My Positive Terminal Has A Crack. Could That Be The Problem. And When I Try To Start It It Just Clicks. One Click And Thats It. Any Suggestions. Info Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
Ok - thinking about the potential for a bad battery, bad leads or connections, bad starter, and/or bad solenoid.
Trying to think of the easy stuff first -
* suggest to re-inspect your terminations on all large leads - positive and negative. What kind of shape is the positive lead in? Have seen one instance where the lead corroded underneath the insulation, not readily visible to the eye.
* perhaps put a voltmeter across the solenoid, then roll the key to Start. Thinking it should read battery voltage with the solenoid not engaged, and near zero volts with the solenoid engaged.
* if the terminations are good and the solenoid checks out - suggest as long as your pulling the starter for testing, may as well pull the battery to have it load-tested, too.
Good luck, and keep us posted on how things turn out.
