Default Noooo!!!

Well last night I had my first accident ever. I made it about 1 year and a few weeks(just turned 17 in oct). I was turnin left at a redlight, I had the arrow, and this suv runs the redlight and caught the front driverside corner of the truck. They were haulin ***** to, the speed limit was 35 and I know they were atleast goin 45 or 50 ... thank God I had that huge bumper on the truck. It tore their car up bad!! It broke my driverside corner light and its got me kinda nervous though, it might have bent the frame a little cause my doors rubbin the front panel when I open it and it pulls to the left now. Luckily no one was hurt bad, they took the other driver to the hospital but they said he was fine.

Oh ya... it also broke my, well now I cant think of the name but the compartment on passenger side of dash, now it wont close at all. I think it pulled the thing it latches to out of the dash.

Glove compartment? If it is their fault take it to a body shop and have them check it, you can also check the frame for any paint cracks or fresh stress cracks, eye the truck down the pass side and see if anything is off, the cab might be a little tweaked.

Ya, haha thanks my mind went blank, the glovebox won't close. Ya it should be their fault but my mom said you never know what's gonna happen cause its their word vs mine cause there weren't any cameras up. If it is then ill take it to the body shop right up the road and see what they say. The ems and cops were all real nice and didn't give me a ticket or anything.

Ya I guess I'm pretty luck it wasnt worse than it was. I didnt get any pics of the other car it was bout 100 yrds away and the cops told me to stay at my truck. Ill try to get some pics of my truck up tomorrow show the damage. Like I said though if I didnt have that bumper (1/2" thick) , it could have been alot worse. Best $100 dollar investment ever.

Did the cop give the other guy a ticket? That is typically the best way to determine who they found at fault. Also just FYI in Utah unless you specifically have a green arrow to turn left and there is an accident it is your fault. Not sure if its the same way in your state or not. The thinking behind that is that without the arrow the turn is yield only. Even if the green light has turned yellow and then red if your making a turn its your responsibility to ensure the intersection is clear and other cars have stopped.

Without knowing more about the situation and what the intersection schematics are I can't say for certain who would normally be found at fault. Hope it works out for you and you truck and also I hope there was another independent witness to clarify if it ends up being your word against theirs.

All I can say though is that left hand turns are a bitch.
