Default new gears?

where would i get new gears from. all i am seeing when i search for 3.55ls is just ring and pinion. i want to see about getting new set over used ones. cause the ls in the used set might go bad just after putting them in. i currently have 3.08 open diff. if i get just the ring and pinion would i have to buy the clutch pack seperate. if i have to buy the pack seperat i miswell just swap it out with my current gear set. its on a 93 f150 4x4 and i do know i will have to swap the front also.

The locker or limited slip will be a separate item from the gears unless you find some kind of package.

I like used, just because I feel nobody can put it together as good as the factory. I've never had a rebuilt transmission last more than a year, the rear I had a mechanic rebuild self destructed after a week.

I don't see a problem with that. I'd probably install and test it before putting in synthetic. I've swapped my rear 3 times. As long as there's plenty in the junkyards I don't have a problem with it. Got me a spare under my house.

I would agree and disagree.

Unless you know someone who's done them (Ford 8.8" specifically) then I'd go find a used one. I, on the other hand, happen to work with a 8.8" Guru and had him swap my 3.08 regular axle for a Ford Racing 4.10 with Trac-Lok differential. I've put about 4k miles on it and made few trips down the 1/4 mile and it's still a.o.k. Plus, most any Ford Dealership should have someone there that can correctly set up the rear axle. They (the dealership) do have special tools for the 8.8" to be sure the pinion depth and backlash are set to factory specs.

My .02 pence....
