Default new distributor

So I went to replace my distributor on my 88 300. And at tdc my rotor is pointing directly opposite from cylinder one.

And I've got the old one out. And stupid me didn't mark up where it was on the block. Any help?

Pull the distributor up until the gear disengages, then turn the rotor around to where it needs to be and lower the distributor back down. If its still off some pull it back up again and rotate it a tooth or two in the direction it needs to go. It might take a few tries but you'll get it.

That's cause your TDC on exhaust stroke for cyl 1..

Just set the new one down in as close to old was...

Then retime with a timing light to get it on the money..

lift up the dis. until you can turn your rotor then point it to the number one plug wire hook up about the location on the picture, that will get you close, then finish timing from there.

when you put it on TDC and the Rotor was pointing Opposite the #1 plug wire that means it was on TDC for #6 cylinder Firing order.

Put it back the EXACT same way you took it out.

the rotor points at the cylinder it fires... #1 and #6 share the same TDC twice.... once Firing and once Exhausting....

I remember when I did mine.. it was a major pita... I ended up thinking about it for a day or 2 and figured out I was 180° out... turned it 180 and fired right up.

you'd be surprised just how many people have difficulty dropping a dizzy in the right spot.

not many can do it and get it to fire. there is definitely a trick to it and it is to keep it lined up.

Harder is dropping a new dizzy in a new engine for the initial firing. I've seen a great many people struggle. I can usually get it within 2 degrees of where i want it right off the bat.

There is a very neat trick that'll get you on the money... Can't share... But if you look online enough, I'm sure youll find it..

The only engine ive ever had to retime after building, was my own.. Most other builds have been stock though..

All others when I fire and double check they're exactly where I dropped dizzy in on the money..
