Default Need some advice on pulling a motor

Ok I have a 94 f150 ext cab 5.0 302 , blown motor , I have the starter off it , all the transmission bolts, the down pipes are unbolted and dropped from the manifolds , the motor mounts are unbolted, all the hoses and wires are unhooked ect.. Heres the problem , the truck had a blown motor when I bought it, the person I bought the truck from attempted to take the torque converter bolts loose and stripped them. I know they make grip tite sockets to take stripped bolts and nuts loose , tryed could go buy another set with other different sizes , but my question is if i lift the motor up with the engine crane and put a couple of jacks under the transmission to keep it level with the motor , does anyone think I could just pull the transmission shaft loose out of the torque converter and leave the TQ bolted to the flywheel and deal with it when I have the motor out. Im not worried about damaging the transmission shaft or the converter I have another transmission im planning on putting in the truck too. Im just wondering if you think the shaft will pull loose from the TQ? Hopefully thats not too much or understandable , thanks.

Default motor pull

you'll be just fine and I doubt that you will hurt anything. I've done it more than once. Just did it with my 99 5.4 when the motor froze up on me. just wiggle the block from the tranny and then pull stright out. it'll be fine. just be ready to catch some fluid!!

Yep, that's how you have to do it when there's a problem removing the torque converter.

The "by the book" way is to remove the engine and tranny together. Most mechanics will remove the torque converter with the engine and leave the tranny in the vehicle. The only thing that separating the converter from the tranny will do is cause some fluid leak if not able to drain the converter. Make sure that the input shaft does not get lost in the removal, I have lost one on a pinto with a seized engine.

Yes go for it. Do not and I repeat do not reinstall it that way, torque converter has to be inserted in the trans first, ask those who don't believe how expensive it is to replace front pump. Its your money.

Worked perfect I raised it with the crane some and it split the motor and trans enough to get a prybar inbetween them , and I put a jack under the trans and pryed them apart , and raised the motor right out.

Hey this is a digital world, I think that we need to have a section where we hold the pics of removals, replacements, and upgrades so everyone can view, download and admire.
