Well. Unbolt the carrier thing from the side rail (it gives a little more room to work with) and use a 3/8 fuel line remover. Pop the lines off, make sure you have some rags or something for the fuel that will come out, and pop in the new filter. I think you're missing some clips though.

Make sure you cycle the pump(s) a few times to get fuel to/through the filter before you first start it after you change it.

Obviously the guys you talked to aren't mechanics.

i have a '94 F150 with the same setup (don't they all?) and i went to change mine last summer and the Bugger wouldn't come off at all. pretty sure all fuel pressure was released because when i started motor like the instructions said it would shudder and die.

just go to the parts store ask for the ford fuel line release clips. they make a few diff ones. an X shaped tool that i dont like, round plastic things that i dont like lol and a set of anodized aluminum ones i like lol

bleed the lines dry by the schrader valve on the engine. (( its on the fuel rail and looks like the valve core on a tire.))

after you changed it? Did you cycle the pumps or just try to start it straight off?

you have to bleed the pressure off.
put the tool in as far as you can.
thenpush the fitting closed (as if you were putting it on)
then make sure the tool is fitted all the way down still and pull the line apart.

i bought the cheap x kinda tool before and it broke. i made a tool out of the side of an old soda bottle cap. it worked pretty good for a one time use in a pinch tool.

I got the shiny gold colored one. Very sturdy. Sometimes it just sticks from being in for so long, sometimes its because the clips on the inside get bent all weird and the tool just wont work.
