msd ignition
While MSD is the "name" people seem to go to, I personally have never had any luck with their CD (Capacitive Discharge) systems.
I prefer Mallory Ignition, which by the way, was the ignition system in the very first Ford and was for many years after, Mallory still plays a role in helping Ford develop their ignitions systems....
Anyway, rant over, I'd suggest buying Mallory products. They make the very same stuff as MSD. Mallory makes replacement high performance distributors for TFI ignitions, HO coils, Digital CD boxes, etc.
For a little more HP and gas milage I would just change the spark plugs with E3's, replace the cap, rotor and wires with Motorcraft replacements and bump the timing a few degrees, doing all that will net you about 10-15 HP increase...
My 2 cents...

$150. plus elbow grease: http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump I'll take Mallory over MSD. Mallory's been around long before I was driving, and that's longer than a lot of forum readers have been alive. Except for MSD's 8.5 Superconductor/low resistance plug wires. The best specs & long life! Bulletproof! (depending on caliber)

Plugs are a thread or two subject all by themselves. It mostly depends on whats pushing them as far as the rest of the ignition system & what you want the plug to do. Different plugs do different things, better or worse than others. some plugs require an ignition system upgrade to get them to do what you want them to do. Others just need a healthy stock ignition, but won't give you maximum fuel ignition.
