Default MPG of the 302 with Automatic

So,
Loving my truck and I know its gonna drink gas, but, 12 mpg seems a tad low.. I would *like* 15 mpg... But i suspect the tires and the nice huge *** camper shell keep it down lower

Anything I can do to add those 3 mpg? A tune up is in the works and occasionally it seems to run a little rich and idle a little high... Not bad, just a touch but going by exhaust smell and feel... I am sure it has a clogged injector and I'll handle that soon enough

Thoughts?

How far do you go on the front tank when its full?

95 2wd Reg Cab... Its been alot more city driving of recent

... I know a tune up is in order, I also think the Toyo tires are a very high rolling resistance tires (more for a 4wd truck)

Ill try and re update my profile..

BTW- Not that its geared the same and I think it would be different, I got around 15-17 mpg average on my 96 Exploder with the 302 and E40D (I think thats what tranny it had) and 21 hwy... I want to eventually drive this beast back to my parents next may, camping and such along the way

Its mostly been surface streets (Portland has no real Freeways)....

I am getting a set of Hankooks Dynapro HT's put on it for now.... $375 at sears, mounted and balanced... The Toyos that are on it, are the WRONG size, there too wide and there a floater size (new term for me!).. Doing an alingment as well....

Plugs, wires, cap and rotor are next... I am 5'6" and its hard for me to reach, so I may have to farm that out (or find a willing and knowledgable person to aide me)

I have a gut feeling its in those toyo tires.. reading online, they got fairly lack luster reviews and there more for 4wd/off road, which this truck won't do.. Plus I am not jacking my truck up to see Jesus, so, ill put what amounts to the OEM basic F-150 tire on there

BTW-I love trucks Jacked up to see Jesus, but i just personaly can't drive one..Too awkard

Default Tires on My Truck..

From doing research, these belong on like a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep.. Not a 2wd F-150...

My rear axle is the 3.55 LS (or H9) BTW

Thanks for the help.. Think im on the right track.. The more i do to this truck the more it rewards me.. Its such a sweet truck and drives nice

why does everyone get the limited slip 3.55s lol, iv struck out 3 times now.

anyway, if you lived a tad closer id help with the tune up, but a shade over 100 miles is a little far lol. get back to us with your MPG after you have done the tune up and removed the canopy.

The canopy can't come off sadly and I think this is the other issue.. Its bolted on tight.. 5 eye hooks down each side.. I could do bed rail caps and such, but, the paint is messed up from where its been sitting and from all practical purposes, its best to leave it be...

Whats wrong with the 3.55 LS? I think Ford got a deal with em... It will work fine for me

The tune up won't happen till after my work trip east..

Thanks for the offer to help.. LOL, i drive all over this state, so 100 miles isn't anything to me..Once i get settled, ill ping ya for some pointers at least
