Default more weird stuff

First of all, I really appreciate those of you who try to help around here, Thank You.

Steve I tried to update my sig on my phone but i’m not sure if it worked, so if it didn’t I apologize.

I’m driving around in my
96 5.0 E4OD 2wd extended cab
these days with weird things happening that my Haynes manual doesn’t go into detail about...

I’m driving along and I lose power. All my gauges stay normal-its not shutting off that I know of-but I can’t get any response from the accelerator. I can’t replicate the problem when I’m at standing idle. After a moment it goes back to normal.

It started two days ago so I replaced the battery and had Oreillys test the alternator and it tested ok.

Two weeks ago I replaced the water pump and timing set.

Any ideas are most welcome, Its my only vehicle and i commute to work. Thanks again.

The acceleration issue sounds like a transmission problem to me.

I’m retarded, i was watching the voltage and not the oil pressure. it shut off on me completely in a parking lot today and i had to start it back up

and it did this occasionally before i did all this new work.

It doesn't look like it. Try to find a computer to use for it.

That's pretty vague. Are you talking about electrical power? Or engine power? Are you saying the truck doesn't speed up? Or that the engine doesn't even try to rev up? Or that its sound doesn't change with the pedal on the floor? Or that there's no resistance to pressing the pedal? Or some combination of those?

That has nothing to do with throttle response. Did the previous battery fail some test? What do the battery terminals look like? What exactly did you replace it with (brand, PN, source)?

Again - not related to throttle response. But you can test it yourself anytime you like on the truck.

like i said, my idea that the engine was running was incorrect. its shutting off completely. randomly.

ive tried six different places and no one can connect to the eec/pcm.

i don’t know if the issue is electrical or fuel related. in the year ive had it ive replaced the fuel regulator, both fuel pumps. plugs and wires and the fuel filter to try and address an issue where its hard to start. when its cold i have to cycle the fuel pump (doesnt matter which one) until it either starts magically or i hear a secondary fuel pump like sound, in which case it fires right up.

Keep a fuel pressure gauge on the truck:

Don't let it distract you from driving safely, but if you can as it's stalling, try to notice if the gauge drops before the stall, or after. There is no secondary fuel pump.

thats why that secondary noise is so confusing. the sound is almost exactly the same as the fuel pump.

both tanks were clean when i changed the pumps out so i have a hard time believing theres buildup in the fuel lines to restrict flow at all. i get 18-19 mpg hwy.

You might want to check the fuel line. Look for a neoprene line by the gas tank that connects to the metal fuel line. I would replace any neoprene line I found, I had a 87 Crown Vic, years ago. It would do the same thing. let it sit for 10-15 minuets and it would be fine, for a little while. I would also check the in line fuel filter, and the fuel pump sock. Hope this helps ya. Let us know what you find out what the problem is.
