Hi all, i have a '91 f150 xlt w/351 and e4od. cleaned the K&N air filter last week and has been running like sh*t! Unplugged the map sensor and it clears up! what is the significance of the sensor, and will it affect performance if i choose to not run the sensor? All help is appreciated ahead of time!!

It is possible to over oil the air filter and mess up the sensor.

i know it goes without saying, but id take the filter out and get that excess oil off so you dont foul the new MAP.

Huh... the map sensor was along the fire wall over by the ac evaporator housing. Ford went to a MAF sensor in 89-90, which is located in the intake duct.

The 5.0 had Map till 94 on the 5.0. Not sure about the 351, but I agree it would be hard to foul a map in the intake manifold. A maf sensor in the intake tube is easily effected however.

Cool Warlockk... thanks for the info... I wasn't really sure which years they switched over... for some reason 94 did stick in my head.......I looked over at oldfordfuelinjection and found the 89-90 bit.. I may have read it wrong.....but yea...no map sensor in the intake for sure...

If you take the K&N back off, does it run normally again? It seems to me you equate the problem beginning when you installed the filter. Were me, I would take it off to see if the problem is fixed. Although.. I am thinking you coincidentally had another problem start when you installed the filter.
