My truck needs a new air filter and since I have a brand new K&N cone filter laying around I want to adapt it to the end of the MAF. Basically, I'm removing the upper part of the stock air box, but I'm leaving the bottom part so the snorkel can still take air to it. Anyone know of a MAF adapter that will bolt to the MAF so a cone filter can be clamped on? Thanks

 

better get some MAF cleaner too...the oil from the K&N will booger it and your truck aint gonna like it...

 

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and check the plumbing department. They have rubber connectors called FernCos, they have different diameters and also go from one size to another. They are used for connecting different styles of waste pipes together so they are pretty tough.

 

I have read & been told that w/ any air intake mod, that clearing & rebuilding the KAM (Kept Adaptive Memory) is important to avoid running in an over-lean condition. Not so much w/ a K&N drop in (although it probably wouldn't be a bad idea), but definatly a CAI Mod.

 

-I have used K&N's several times so I'm not worried about it. I have MAF cleaner if it was needed any way.
-I dont know if FernCos will work b/c the way our MAF's are designed. Something has to bolt to them, just a rubber connector wont work or I would use a silicone coupler.
-Well with pretty much any mod that affects the way air moves through an engine on a computer controlled vehicle, its good to reset the computer so it can reprogram the way it needs to run.

But I'm basically just looking for a cheap Ebay style part that will bolt to the MAF and has a lip so you can basically clamp a filter on it. (but dont see one on Ebay of course)

I want to go with a cone filter because b/c they flow an extreme amount more air than a panel filter, and with several previous vehicles I have seen a noticeable increase in MPG, I'm willing to say AT LEAST +1 MPG. I'm leaving the stock snorkel so some fresh air will still be brought to it, and I will probably build a heat shield to go around it.

 

Air flow from a K&N is great but there is less protection.. more dirt enters the engine from a K&N then a paper filter for me protection over a small performance increase is the way to go....

 

What he said.....studies actually proved that the paper filter flowed close to what the K&N does without all the grit...however, the AEM dryflow cone filters are supposed to be BA and filter better than the paper filter and outflow a K&N.
