Default M5OD help

Have a reansmission that is about to quit or has quit. I can put it in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Reverse is problematic. (at times I engage it and it is locked). I put it in a foward gear and move it a tad then reverse works. Today I lost 1st and 2nd. Then when I regained it. i lost Reverse, when I regained reverse I lost 1st and 2nd. I can take off in 3rd for Saturday to get a transmission. (I am in the middle of a 4wd conversion and was going to change it anyway). Is there a cheap-free repair or adjustment I can make on it Friday night to have all gears Saturday.

It just needs the 1-2 shift fork. It will get stuck in a gear or no gear because the fork isn't pushing the ring. If it's stuck in first or second it won't go in another gear or when you try the trans locks up. It was weird how mine was doing it, can't remember exactly how but much like you describe. I took out my trusty welder and welded nubs on the fork so it would engage the ring again. Did it twice, maybe one day I'll get the fork.

Ok cool. I never really had any trouble with it, until after I took ly top plave off (out of curiosity) after I took my fallen shifter off, got the M5OD shifter repair kit. Maybe I didn't tighten my top plate down right. Was hoping to find another (4wd version) in a junk yard Saturday. Reverse engages but is loked. I am thinking that fork is forked too. Is the reverse Fork separate from 5th all together?

Reverse and fifth use the same fork although there is secondary linkage for reverse. The trans is stuck in first or second when reverse locks, at least that's what mine was doing. Compare the wear of the 1-2 fork with the 3-4 fork, they're very alike.

Ok so now it is in 1st and wont go into 2nd. I took it and shoved it as hard as I could into 2nd. Too far. It was still acually in 1st and wont move from there. Is it possible without Fing it up, remove the forks wit it in gear, repair forks and put them back in with it stuck in gear? I'm looking at replacing it, but I need it to get me to the salvage yard and back to at least get the rplacement transmission.

The only reason it's stuck in gear is because the fork isn't pushing the ring. It can be fixed easily with a fork or a welder but you are doing the 4x4 swap anyways right? Pull the top cover and you can move the ring off first with a screwdriver or something.

This is from my old 4 speed but it's much the same. The ring on the right, syncronizer in my hand.

I found a transmission/transfer case for the price I want. It is coming out of a 1990 will it bolt right up to a 1993? The body styles are slightly different how different is the floor pan. I am thinking about getting the shift linkage too.

'92-'96 is stronger than '88-'91. They are different but will work. Slave is different too.
