Lesson #1 learned
Took my new 92 F150 to my mechanic and had him put it on the lift. We were looking at underside of the truck. good news is my front end is tight and I don't need to do anything there. I had some transmission fluid leaking where the axle enters the transmission area. (I am not sure of the technical term) I asked him how tricky is it to replace the seal there? He said it is easy. "Drop the axle, pull it out, pop out old seal pop in new one" to me popping out something makes it sound rather easy. When a mechanic says pop out he is not talking about popping off a windshield wiper. I murdered the old seal and the first new one. Once you get that joker off, putting it on isnt all that easy either. I jimmy rigged a piece of wood to evenly distribute the pressure on the seal and put it in. Job done. Lesson # 1 "pop off" means different things to different people.
For a very short time I worked for a general contractor.
His favorite term was "throw it on."
""We got 12 squares of roofing to throw on this house."
"Take this door over to such and such house, hurry up and throw it on."
"It shouldn't take you more than a day to throw that on."
I hated that scam artist.
Not saying your mechanic is a jerk, it's just that I now listen to how people speak before I deal with them.

Sorry dudes, but that's pretty much how I would describe it. Pop off the seal. Throw in those windows. Throw down those shingles. When you do it for a living it's so easy you can do it blindfolded. You also were probably too focused on driving the seal in evenly, I've never got a seal in completely even when starting it but once it stops shooting off in your face then you can tap it in more evenly. It will seat even.
If you knew how hard hard alot of things in life were going to be, would you had even tried in the first place? If everything was a piece of cake, alot of mechanics would be out of work. I do know one that works at a Bakery on weekends! Anyway, it's like anything else. Do it enough & w/ the right tools...... ain't no big thing! Alot of stuff, after enough times, your done before you realize your hands are dirty. If you can field strip an M-1 blinfolded, puttin it back together in broad daylight is easy (unless your at an airport or Federal building)<-JOKE-<
