I would replace that front pump,it should correct the problem you have
now.

You'll also feel more secure knowing you have a "back up" ready and
waiting when that rear pump dies.

Thanks! Now to find someone to do it. The local Ford dealership said they'd be glad to diagnose for us for $78. I guess any price to get it fixed is better than something more severe happening.

here's your solution: don't tell them you have a problem that needs fixed. Call and ask how much it cost to replace the fuel pump. Ta-da! and viola'! Problem solved.

I guarantee they'll test it before they drop the tank! It only takes a minute. A couple of monkeys could do the repair. but the jobs is a pain in the ars & smart monkey's would do a quick troubleshoot anyway. This is where knowledge = savings by going in there informed. i'm trying to think of a reason to take it to a dealer for repair.......Sorry, I got nothin! I really lean towards seeing "Motorcraft"on my parts boxes, You might want to specify that. See if the replacement pump includes the sender. If not, might consider that too, while the tanks down. I would research that prior, as that could be a point of hoodwinkery come bill tally time.
