Default Leafspring question...

OK guys, so the other day I was driving out of a parking lot and half of one of my leaf springs fell off. I'm going to be driving up to Maine (about a 4 and a half hour drive) next week and I really don't have enough money to fix it so the question is will I be safe driving? Also, is there anything I should do to my truck or take with me while driving there? This is my first time taking my truck this far.

I wouldn't do it myself, it's far cheaper to get a junkyard spring and throw in than to have the rear corner drop out from under you while you're at highway speed.
You ever had a tire blow out? That's nothing compared to having an axel flopping around loose on one end. The more I think about it the more it scares me.

When I bought my 93 the passenger side leafs were broke. All except the one main leaf! I drove it like that while I was testing out some other things I fixed for a bit and never had a problem.
Then installed new 99-04 superduty leaf packs.

I would say if your not hauling anything you'll be fine.

were the 99-04s just a bolt in? or did you have to change the hangers? i need new leafs in the rear something fierce.

and to the OP, i wouldnt drive that far especially not having taken your truck that far before. its not just your safety to consider. if you lose it on the highway and slam into a bus full of nuns or something, thats no good. that falls under bad karma.

I don't really see what else could happen? I realize if the other side of the spring breaks it will be left in the road but then won't I just get more lean on one side?

it very well could just lean if the pack holds together. but if you loose a piece of the spring and it hits your tire and shreds it at highway speed, your truck become very hard to handle lol. granted it is a one in a million chance, but for a 30 JY spring, why chance it?

When I bought my truck I brought it to a shop to tell me what it needed for safety before I got the actual safety. The driver side leaf spring had a leaf broken and I was just told to take the pack apart and take the rest of the broken one out. Since then I have replaced them for heavier duty ones.

How was the replacement? it looks just like a few bolts, front hanger, rear hanger, and the two u-bolts.
