Default Leaf Springs Help

Hello I have a 1995 f150 4x4. Im looking to replace the rear leafs with f250 leafs and I was wondering if these leafs are a direct bolt up or would I have to change the shackles to f250 ones as well? Im not sure if f150 and f250 springs are the same width. Looking to order springs right away so if someone could get back to me a.s.a.p I would appreciate it.

Everyone has said 4x4 has the correct hangers for 250 springs.

yes, the 4x4s leaf packs are 3" wide, same as a f250s. also its always a good idea to replace the u bolts when replacing the leaf packs. not sure exactly why but people say to do it. im assuming its just a good thing to replace since there so cheap.

I heard its good to replace them since they are torqued down so much, it stretches the threads out or something. Might as well get new ones since the old ones are probably rusty.

Yeah, as long it's 4wd stuff (3" wide) it'll swap fine. In most cases, however, F250 springs are the same as 1/2ton, they just have a thicker overload on the bottom. The spring eye bolts are likely 14mm so 9/16" will work fine if you need to replace them. 9/16" is generally considered an "automotive" size and won't be carried by all hardware stores in their fastener section, altho my local Ace does. If you can't find them you'll have to go to an actual fastener house.

$225 for the BG springs isn't horrendous I guess, but I'd just grab some more leafs from a JY or people who have installed lift kits with replacement packs. Just grab any length leaf of your choosing and throw it into your current pack. The longer the better really. Leafs are great because they're not choosy about what you do with them and you can mix and match all you want provided the unloaded arch is close-ish kinda sorta. If you can't find a length that'll mesh into your current spring pack you can cut them down with an angle grinder and taper the ends if you choose. Don't worry about the friction pads, they don't do much and aren't worth worrying about.

The point is that you'll get a better, cheaper product by just building your own pack. And if you don't like the end result, pull it apart and add another leaf. You will need a new center pin for your spring pack, and this can be easily made from a Gr8 bolt too. Sometimes the hex head drops into the hole in your axle spring pads fine, sometimes you have to round it down.

U-bolts stretch when they're torqued so they should not be re-used. I'd grab measurements on what length you need and order from a local spring shop who should be able to bend them up same day. Usually around $10 per u-bolt. If you don't have a local spring shop just look in the yellow pages under springs, there's three within a one-day-UPS radius of me.

No, 150 springs are 2 1/2" wide 250 are 3". I know what you're saying but you're going to confuse people.

2wd f150s are 2 1/2" wide, 4x4 150s have 3"

what you just said confused it a little more lol.

Yep. My 4x4 has 3" springs.

On my springs, the leafs are separated because the tabs that hold them together are bent up. I got a set of clamps that bolt on, thinking that it may keep them held together better than the factory tabs that just bend over the top. But, the 3" clamps ended up being about 2 7/8" and would not fit over the leafs without messing up the threads. These parts stores really wear me out, sometimes. They got about everything you need, but half of it doesn't work.

Also, the drivers side seem to sag a little, although all the shackles, hangers, etc appear to be fine.

Can a spring shop take your old springs and recondition them? If so, is it more cost effective or is it better to just buy new ones?
