Default lacking power

SO i just bought my 94 f150 with a 302 5 speed last night. I feel like it is lacking power. When on the highway at about 75 if i go up a hill (doesnt really matter how steep) the truck drops to like 60 and i have to downshift into 4th to keep it at 60 untill flat then i can bring it up to 75 again. The previous owner put 6000 miles on it in 4 years so im assuming plugs could probably be replaced?

Thanks guys

try plugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter, just your basic maitence stuff. aslo change your oil and filter too. how many miles does it have on it. my 93 is sorda the same way. but its only on real steep hills for me. also try a higher octane fuel too. i started put premium in mine and it runs alot better. cuts down on fuel mileage a little but ya get more power.

my 88 needs to downshift when going up hills in 5th, (I have a 302 with M5OD) but I also am trying to push 33's. I recently did a whole seafoam thing to my truck and it seems to have more power (haven't taken it onto the interstate again, but city driving is much better) did a full can in the gas tank, 1/2 can in the Brake Booster line, and 1/2 can in the oil, and the changed the oil after driving around with the seafoam in it for a couple days.

thats part of your problem right there the 33s. and that m5od tranny is junk too. but the 33s take alot of your power from. if you switched to a 31 you would get more power. but nobody wants to put smaller tires on. and also another part of is it probably has high gears in it and with 33s you need a lower gear atleas a 3:73

you also might want to try and replace your cap and rotor too.

If I may chime in....

Do you know what gears are in the rear? Could be that she just has low gears in it which is great for gas milage on the highway but, sucks for getting any power to the ground.

I have a similar issue with my 94' 5.0L 2WD, it has 3.08 gears in the rear, what a turd!

There should be a tag on one of the bolts on the pumpkin cover on the rear to tell you what gears are in it. If they are 3.08's no tune up in the world will help you'll need to change the gears but, man what a difference that makes!

Good luck!

Plugs ,wires, cap, rotor, fuelfilter. No doubt...the wires themselves and fuel filter are most likely pretty raunchy.

ok so got all plugs, wires, cap done and it started up right away. Didnt do rotor because i got the bolt on one on accident isted of the slide on. But it started up right away. about half hour later i went to leave and it was doing the same thing as before. I feel like it is cranking to long to start. Any idea what would cause this?
