junk yard transmision problem
I put a used trany in because it was cheep and now that i got it in the tranny drive but feels like it starts in second. If you put it in first or second then shift to drive it works fine but it doesnt seem to go into over drive and I cant seem to tell if there is a first gear. I need some help I dont have the 2000 dollars everbody wanted to rebuild my tranny and I got the used one for 300 which i thought would be a good deal. It is a tranny out of a 92 f250 and I put it in a 93 150 all the markings and lettering on the stamps and casting were the exact same

befor I put the tranny in I dumped the torque converter and put a new filter in it with new fluid I have only driven it 20 miles I just dont want to burn it up and waist the 300 dollars I dont know if I need to adjust a cable or something because it doesnt shiff down to pass when in drive either
check the nuetral safety switch. Make sure it is properly aligned. You can do this with a scan tool in data mode, or put the shifter into nuetral, and make sure the lines on the switch are properly aligned. Make sure it's pluged in properly also. If this has already been done successfully, then put a scan tool on it and go through all the gears making sure it reads all of them. I don't know of any salvage yard that wouldn't check it before selling it, so it probably worked before, and is more than likely and electrical problem.
i say junkyard but it came really came from a guy that said it was all good just had been sitting and when i took the pan down there were no chunks and the fluid was a little dark but didnt smell burnt. I didnt think a OBD1 would tell you that kind of information. I know the snap on scanners didnt tell you much on jeeps but then again I never had a automatic jeep that I was trying to diag. just engine work

You can't get much because of the early computer, but i believe you should still be able to get the PRNDL atleast... not really 100% sure on that one, but I'll try and check tomorrow with my Solus Pro on my '92. At the very least though, be sure the marks are aligned on the nuetral safety switch. Only if they are should you need to investigate further.
I drove it last night with a friend and it seems to be taking off in first gear like it should but it doesn't have overdrive the light goes on and off but doesn't actually do anything and it seems to be slipping when you let off the gas and get back on the gas it takes it a few seconds before you can feel it engage
