Default instrument panel light

just bought this '94 F150 and have no light to the gauges. Ill turn the headlights on and turn the headlight **** clock/counterclock-wise, which I assume is to control the dimming of that light. I replaced the fuse, which it says should be a 4amp, and it blew first thing. got a little ballsy and put a 5amp in and still blew.
I'd assume there is a short somewhere but what suggestions do yall have for beginning this? most everything else besides the dome light and cruise control work on the truck.

check the wiring behind the gauge cluster? i think my truck has a 15 amp fuse for the instrument panel. just go with what the fuse panel says

well your in luck then i removed mine more then once

first take the 2 little plastic pieces usually the same color as your dash out with a flat head carefully.
then you remove the screws
next remove the headlight **** using a flat head to push back on the little clip holding it on and slide it out while pushing down
then it should un clip from the dash .
to get behind the gauge cluster there is just 4 bolts that can be removed with ether a hex bit or socket.

do not force anything you will break clips easy!
from there you should be able to see most of the wiring and be able to follow it back to the fuse panel

so i assume the sticker that says to contact ford electronics before removing gauge panel isnt neccessary.. noone answered when i called, lol.
says not to lay gauges on their face, but i gues just loosening the whole panel, not actually removing it is alright?

sean, what do you mean by the plug?

i think he means the headlight siwtch and the plugs in the back of the console.

you can remove the cluster just don't lay it on the face i guess. the only issue i had was i had to reset the fuel gauge.

to reset it if it just goes past full all you need to do is set it back before E when it hits the hash mark next to E turn the key off and its done
