Default Injector cleaning

My long block is at the machine shop to get rebuilt. When I pulled the engine, I was careful to organize everything and put the individual components in boxes. Unfortunately the box with my fuel rail and injectors is gone. I called the machine shop thinking I inadvertently left it with them. I didn’t. I will head to the JY to see if I can find another fuel rail and injectors. Would you recommend having them cleaned? What is the best alternate if I cannot find OEM injectors at the junkyard

OEMs from a junkyard are definitely a better option that any aftermarket injector. To clean them, just run 12v to each injector to open it, and spray carb cleaner or another similar, but not too harsh, solvent through each one.

To clean the injectors, install them, and put some additives in the tank(s). That applies to ANY EFI vehicle.

Is there ever a reason to replace injectors? My 1987 EFI Small block V8 Form F150 keeps cutting out/sputtering intermittently. So far, 4 different mechanic/shops have given it their best shot. New gas tank, new fuel pump, sending unit and gas gauge put in by the 1st shop. They had it 4 weeks!. Same problem after picking it up. 2nd shop took 3 weeks to put in a EMC/ICU unit [(?) May have the acronym wrong on that] and give it a "tune up." Still same problem when I picked it up. The 3rd shop had it 3 weeks and said a better fuel pump was needed. Put in Delphi? Still having problems. Cutting off. Rough idling. Sputtering. Now we are on to the 4th shop. Each shop was recommended to be much better than the others. I keep thinking I am climbing the ladder of expertise, but yet I am getting anywhere. It's been 4 days now with the latest mechanic. Took it in on Monday. Did not want to be a pest, so waited till this morning to check on it. Response was, "Have not had time to look at it." "Hopefully by the end of the week." I am doubtful.

My approach must be all wrong. Rather than expect these shops to troubleshoot the problem; they seem to do better just being told what to do. I am thinking to tell them to... just replace the injectors, the fuel filter, etc. Is there a pressure regulator, and is there such thing as a PIP sensor? What components are their in a fuel system? I am thinking just get the rest of the replaced.

I hope this post makes sense. I am physically not able to work on a truck...and have no knowledge of auto mechanics. This truck is my only vehicle. I am doing something very wrong not to have been able to get this fixed and been out of a truck for well over 2 months already.

Any suggestions would be very encouraging and helpful.

I never put anything in the tank to clean injectors
Do it like the dealer does
Use one of these and the special Ford sauce

Put the sauce in this, air it up to 30 lbs and clean them like you know what you are doing. There are a few tricks, ask away

I clean My BMWs this way and make them run like new
You can clean the injectors for as long as you want
I do those bimmers for hours at a time
Cleans the upper end / valves and combustion chambers too, if you run it long enough
Don't get hosed, mine was only 125

You can clean them yourself, or send them off, or buy new. I like the status report that comes back from sending them off saying they're all at maximum flow, but that's just me. A rebuild should also be included. A new set might cost about the same.

If you do your own you should also do the rebuild. Get parts here https://www.mrinjectorparts.com/stor...Feed_Kits.html (no affiliation, just used them twice and was pleased).

Also, if you have the earlier style with only 2 (or 3, I forget) outlet holes, now's the time to upgrade to the 4-hole design. You want the orange, 19lb/hour flow rate, 12-14 ohms operation, working at 38-44psi model. Both have the same ratings, but the four-hole design is supposed to better atomize the fuel. I can also say that I replaced my fat body injectors with the slim body injectors and had no problems so that characteristic is not all that important.
