1991 f150 manual transmission ,,key is hard to turn got stuck too far today had to turn it back some. Is that just my ignition switch that needs replacing? And does anyone have any tips for doing the job? I heard if have to take off my steering wheel? Any help greatly appreciated I'll be fixing it in the morning

Could be a couple different things, either key cylinder is sticking or ignition rod is damaged/catching. The cylinder will pop right out, turn key to on, stick pin into hole on bottom of cylinder and it slides right out. The ign rod assembly is a PITA.

Should still have a hole to release the lock (key) mechanism, but maybe not.
I think I would unbolt the ignition switch from under the column (on the bottom of the column with lots of wires) and make sure it's not the problem before tearing the column apart.

Still has the hole on the underside of the cylinder, you might not have the hole in the column cover but it's in the cylinder's housing. You don't have to pull the steering wheel for any reason with the ignition system.

By the way. For my truck I HAD to take off my steering wheel. No way around it. Had to get it off to push the pin. Called several knowledgable buddy's and that's what had to be done to replace the tumbler in mine. Just a future reference for the ones that haven't delt with it
