So my 95 F150 came with automatic hubs. The original owner removed them and put in manual WARN hubs. They work fine, but on one side, the hub has started to corrode and I worry its about to fall apart.

I do not offroad with this vehicle. I do tow and drive in ice and snow. Are the factory hubs that much worse? I got them with the truck, so I could swap them back on, and avoid buying new hubs.

I know the factory Automatic hubs to not have the best reputation, but is that in all environments or just off roading?

Also, while I am at it, is there a better way to remove your rotors than smashing and hoping? They are stuck pretty fierce, and need a turning.

are you disassembling the hubs first?

Right you have to disassemble the hubs to get the rotors off. And I believe the auto hubs are a ticking time bomb. It's not if they'll break but when, I'd much rather have the security of manual hubs even with having to get out to lock them in to use four wheel drive. It never seemed like much of an inconvenience to me.

I dismantled the hub alright, nice and greasy. I think its just rust and it needs a beating, but me and the sledge just dont get along these days.

Got the 4-pin and any snap rings off? I'd just make sure there's nothing holding it on before taking the BFH to it. I've been caught by that before ******* hate snap rings.

That should come off as a unit - bearing hub, rotor and bearings. Look for a snap ring. When all is undone, it should practically fall right off. Then I believe you have to knock out the wheel nut studs to take the rotor off the bearing hub.

I replaced rotors on mine with manual hubs, and a few things I would also replace while they are apart would be the wheel seals. If you have access to a machine press its much easier to press out the studs and then put them back in. If I could go back I would also just get new studs as well because they get rusty and thread damage over the years.
