Default how much is too much

I have been dealing with the duel fuel tank problems.in my 1986 f150.five new fuel pumps in the last five years..new tanks..well just got the whole bit rebuilt again.cost 1000.oo went twenty miles and am back at square one. truck is back at the mechanic who is guarenteeing afix.but wonder why it is so hard. shouldn,t a mechanic getting 80 an hour know what to do here??

hi and welcome to the forum....

i hope you never let the fuel level go under 1/4 tank. if so, the fuel pump would burn up.

or, maybe your mechanic likes to see you... and have you pay him too lol.

what exactly is the fuel problem? im pretty sure people on this forum can help you fix it.

You do know your truck has three fuel pumps, right?

I'll bet the mechanic doesn't know. Should have figured it out when he looked up the part numbers for the new pumps. Although, Rock Auto's site lists a couple that say "May require two pumps" and some that say "Require two pumps". He installed the two in tank pumps and forgot the inline HP Pump.

Plus the valve gets stuck. Mine won't let the truck run higher than idle on the rear tank. I do have another I'll try some day.

The in tank pumps are cooled by the gas. Right? Thats why you dont wont the tanks to go terribly low.?
