Do not use a silicone based lubricant- it can be sucked into your air intake and contaminate the O2 sensors.
As Nighthawkjr said, lithium grease is a good choice. I have been using Fluid Film for my needs.

Not trying to steal yor thunder, but my drivers door has recently requred harder and harder shuttig, slight rattle, and makes a VERY loud, sharp click when i open it. It just started this. Its well lubed, and the pin the latch grabs is secure and okay, so my problem is my latch, but what do i do?
