Default Help! wipers quit working

Im new to the forum and i have a wiper issue. My wipers were randomly stopping for no reason on delay slow and fast. Last nite they quit working all together. They stopped in the straight up position and now they wont move at all and they are making an awful noise when the truck is running even when they are turned off. I was looking over past forums and read the wiper motor thread, and i was wondering if the problem is the wiper motor or if i should repair the governor /regulator?

Sounds like a bad wiper motor to me. I had an 89 that did the same thing. Your wiper motor actually has a little transmission in it with drive and park. If the wipers wont move and its making a noise, I'll bet you 11 crispy creams out of a dozen the motor is done. Something may be worn out or stripped in there or the chip inside maybe shorting. The wiper motor isn't too bad to change. If I recall correctly I paid $25 for one at a junk yard. To replace it you'll need to remove the wiper arms (pull out the little tabs where they pivot and them off the shaft). Then remove the hoodcowl (the slotted piece of metal in between your hood and windshield). I think there was another little metal piece that had to come off and then you can get to the wiper motor.

I would solder the connections in the control module first since it's free and probably needs to be done anyways. Then see how the wipers work.
