Welcome to the site!

Errrrr - could be any of many things.

Some thoughts that come to mind are -
* Plugged cat or crushed exhaust pipe - something that causes an airflow restriction. On the other end - a seriously plugged air filter.
* Is the tranny OK? Does the relationship between road speed and engine speed stay the same for the same gear - if not, leading towards a slipping or low-fluid issue.
* A vacuum or intake gasket leak will generally have a higher idle speed - the worse the leak, the higher the idle.
* Is the EGR line in good shape - a leak here will mean that oxygen-rich fresh air, instead of oxygen-depleted exhaust gas will be admitted - which upsets the computer controls a bit.
* How's the fuel filter? A fouled filter or weak pump will be most noticeable at higher fuel demands, such as going down the highway. There is a port on the intake fuel runner for measuring pressure - should see 30psi-plus.

When you cleared the codes, did any come back? If so, what were they?

Good luck, and keep us posted.

i had something similar to this happen to my old truck ( never shoulda gotten rid of it.) but my problem was the idle air control valve (IAC). if you catch it soon enough you can clean them and they will be fine. thats how i fixed mine. i just sprayed it out with some brakleen and it worked fine after that. i even noticed more MPGs. try cleanin that. its located on the throttle body. it looks like a little canister if you will. i mean whats there to loose? you clean it and it starts runnin fine agin.lol.

ok. this my best shot at this from my laptop. but i found a pic online and doctored it so that you can see the IAC valve. the orange circle shows the IAC valve. if you turn your head to left 90 degrees it will just like it does on your truck.lol. there are fours screws that hold it in. well it comes apart all together or in pieces.2 screws hold on the electrical portion of the IAC and the other 2 hold on the valve itself. i found it easier to disconnect the intake tubing that fedds the throttle body fur easier access to the valve. then i know i took the back 2 screws out first (after disconnecting the connector first.lol) then the whole assembly should come out. tear that apart. pay close attention to the way you tear it apart. as i am doin this from the computer and havent done it fur a while i dont remember what it looks like in there. SO PAY ATTENTION.LOL.then spray everything down with brakeleen. and put it all together. then your done.lol. hope this fixes your problem. once again this is the best i can do fur now and rememberin what i do. have fun.

You may have changed the EGR but does it work? Just because you get an EGR code doesn't mean it's bad, it could be as simple as no vacuum getting to the control solenoid or a bad control solenoid.

Smile Dieing out problem

We have a merc that did that very same thing I took it scanned it with the same thing you got, did the same thing you did in changing the O2 sensor and yup the same thing. Change the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel rail. I changed mine and wow what a change it runs great. Again ours was doing the same thing as yours is doing. Pull the line off the regulator and smell for gas there shouldn't be any gas smell. If there is it's leaking pressure.

I hope he fixed it two years ago when he asked the question.
