help me put it to rest
he timing bump and hotter ignition upgrade.
out here in the midwest Alot of people have started to do it. my newest truck has the 5.8 and most people advance their timing to 14 and then retard it back down to 12 then the stock 10 because the engine does run as well.
my question for those out there who really know what their doing besides following a forum:how to guide.
would using a hotter coil, the new cap, rotor, coil, wires, and regapping my plugs but NOT advancing the timing be helpful?
this isnt someone whose trying to gain every last bit of horsepower they can through cheap mods. Im just doing my spring tune up and decided why not add the stuff to shut up all the timing bump users

Yes you can use a hotter coil without advance, all it does is gives you a stronger spark for better fuel burn. But the hotter coil wont do any good without better wires, re-gapped plugs etc. But bumping the timing makes it the most efficient.
thats what id be doing. new coil, rotor, cap, wires and plugs gapped to 50. all that with the stock timing. but THANK YOU hopefully i can shut some of these kids up who think any change adds horsepower even seat covers and rear view mirrors with skulls

That 6.5 couldn't torque it's way out of a wet paper bag. The timing bump does help btw, it's just tedious because you have to time and regime until you find the sweet spot. My flareside ran and performed best at 16.5* timing. Every vehicle is different and a lot of people don't have the patience to do a timing bump.
from my understanding of engines it wont work on the 5.8 because we dont have a knock sensor like the 5.0 i wish i could do it but id rather not kill a good engine by forcing it to change. and the 6.5 was more of just an excuse to have a diesel IMO not alot of problems not alot of power. just a decent engine.

Yea man, when it knocks you've gone too far. You don't need a knock sensor to tell you that. You just need to listen and make sure it doesn't happen. That's why patience was mentioned.
