I plan on snagging one from an explorer. It has map lights, compass, and ambient temp. It requires minor trimming to fit perfectly.

Is it all built in the console or do you have to do anymore than hook up power?

Other then the external temp sensor I can hook it right up to power. Compass and temp module is built into the overhead for the early GM vans from what I've seen.

Okay, next question, can I trace wiring to the temp sensor or is it built into the computer, etc, etc, etc? I'm probably going to build a headliner and I see overhead consoles all the time at the salvage yard. I installed one in my Fiance's Silverado, but it sisn't have the fancy options.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I know the 97-03's have a temp sensor located in front of the radiator area, and it's about a $20.00 part new.
