Default Headlight Issue

I am new here, hoping someone can help me out. I just bought a 1993 F150 and I am having a headlight issue. The headlights normally work fine but from time to time they just shut off, while the parking lamps stay on. All I have to do is flash the high beams and they come back on. I replaced the headlight switch but still having the problem. I have to get it inspected next week so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your 93 have the floor mount high beam switch or is it on the same lever as the headlights? If it is seperate, and hitting that switch fixes them, try replacing the high beam switch.

The high beam switch is on the steering column, the light switch is on the dash. Would it be the whole turn signal switch that needs to be replaced?

I'm not sure if that's the problem, as its just a guess. But it makes sense to me that if fiddling with that switch makes them work, then that switch is faulty. But if it is that switch that's bad, I'm pretty sure you'd have to replace the whole column switch as a unit. If you can try this cheaply, I'd give it a shot. Hopefully someone else who's had this problem will be able to help you better than I can though. Maybe it could have something to do with the relay too? I'm just throwing out suggestions though.

I looked into the column switch and it is about $65, so I don't want to go that route just yet. Would anybody be able to tell me where the headlight relay is on a '93? I opened the relay box under the hood but the diagram is missing.

I just went and looked for mine, but the electrical on my truck is a different animal. I don't have a headlight relay under the hood, mines in the cab I guess. Sorry

Also, I was reading another f150 forum and found someone with the same exact problem as you, and he described switching from low to high beam as well. Someone on that forum told him if it wasnt the relay, to try tilting the wheel up and down and see if that has an effect. Apparently, the wiring from the light switch comes loose from the movement of the tilt wheel. I figured I'd just throw that in here for you.
