my truck does not have a tach so I am not sure. Now my engine has 270000 miles on it. I will have to adapt a tach to it and find out.

If it's an I6, you're probably just revved past max power, where it starts to taper off. If you've got the thing floored, it's gonna shift at redline, and 300s have no power there

Mine is a 5 speed manual 4.9 L 1992 4x4

Strange. Manuals usually have a tachometer.

XLs don't come with tachs. I switch mine for one with a tach, make sure to record both mileages if you do so!

I get the best acceleration when I change gears a hair above 4000rpm. The peak of the 300s power is at 3500rpm but it's power isn't peaky. It's flat after like 2000 rpm. The torque drops off though, which is what you may be feeling.

I noticed that my 300's oil gauge goes low when I rev over 3000rpm. I also noticed that the the battery meter fluxed as well. Anyone know what this means ?

Mines an xl and it came with a tach. But it has the 302 5 speed and 2wd.

Yep, XLs with manual transmissions do come with tachs.
