Warning if your truck has over 100,000 miles on it do not change the tranny fluid. those things get used to crappy oil , crappy oil has to stay. if it has had a tranny flush within the last 50,000 miles its ok. but its your call. ive seen a lot of old trannies die cause someone changed the oil in it improperly.

yeah i did a tranny fluid change and filter and gasket change because it was leaking and you guys know what happened, about a month later I had to have it rebuilt. The clutches were all burnt down to the metal. And I heard the sawdust helps for a little bit and then cloggs everything up. People in houston were doing that for awhile. Nasty stuff.

Yeah, and you really never think to check for it! and Im not exactly sure if it will kill it, but it might. Its always a possiblity, so before you do anything drastic to it i would make sure my pocketbook could handle that possibility! Automatic Transmissions are crap in my opinion. They arent really well designed in the aspect that they dont have much longevity. Manual transmissions on the other hand, well all you really have to do is change the fluid and change the clutch and youre good to go!

ya well its auto and im not messing around to make it a manual. it doesn't seem to be as bad now it still seems to be a bit slugish shifting tho. i just noticed there a couple days ago that my O/D button it broke and is missing would this be a problem and i ws also told that there is a plug-in in the rear end that maybe making my truck shift funny

idk about the rear end deal, however, the OD button being missing I wouldnt think would affect much just it not going into od if it was on when it was broke off. and its a big deal converting.

Change the fluid and filter, just don't drain the converter so there's some old fluid in there. I don't believe that changing the fluid could ever be harmful but I suppose a full flush could. I have never changed my fluid and filter and said "I wish I hadn't did that". I have always seen an improvement in the quality of the shifts after a filter change.
