Default Gauge issues

Ok i have a 1994 flairside with a 302. my temp gauge never moves past the n in normal but does move from the far left of the gauge to the N. i have replaced the temp switch and thermostate. so i was thinking that the gauge itself might be bad? any thoughts? thanks........

Years past we had a test tool to connect into the system. Without boreing you with details my brain can't back up, take the wire off the sender, gauge will read either full hot or cold, if you connect a jumper from wire to ground it should go to the opposite.

Another thought is to be sure you have the temp sender, there were two of them, one for the gauge and the other for the PCM.

Theres a sensor and a sender. The sender goes to the gauge and the sensor goes to the PCM. The sensor has nothing to do with the gauge, only the sender does. I'd replace the sender first. Does your truck blow heat out of the vents or is it always cold?

I have the SAME problem on my 96 F150 EB, but the AC and Heat work just fine, it blows whatever temp I have it selected at..

Mine runs at the "o" in normal and the heat and a/c run just fine. Unless you are having something other type of problem, I'd say leave it alone. I changed my temp sender before because my gauge didn't work at all, and so I replaced it, so I know there is no problem. If it just reads at "N" then that's probably all the hotter its getting. If you want it to warm up more, put a higher temp therm on it or check out your fan. Mine clutch is stuck on so the fan is always running

well i already replaced the Coolant Temperature Sensor i got it from autozone part #SU201 for $14.99. now i did not see any part named Temperature sender however i did find a part called a Temperature Switch also from auto zone part #TU25 FOR $6.99. i have also heard from some ford people that after a few years the spring inside the temp gauge gets worn out from all of the cycles it goes through in its life and needs to be replaced. so any other info on this subject would be helpfull thanks alot.

You still didn't really answer if anything is wrong due to your low temp. If its registering on the gauge, I'd say your sender is probably fine. The temperature switch is the name that some stores use to describe the sender, so yes that is what you'll want to replace, but I'm still not sure why you want to replace it. These trucks habitually run cool. I'd check your fan/clutch, and replace your therm with a higher temp one before I'd waste time replacing the temp sender. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
