It's on my 89 5.8. I just put new fuel pumps in the tanks, I replaced the low press pumps with 160lph high press pumps from a Lincoln mark 8 due to the fact I have 24 lb injectors. I also eliminated the high press pump on the frame. It wasn't to bad to do the conversion either only a slight mod needed to the pipe in the tank for the longer pump, just had to cut off about an inch. It worked great when I fired it up, set the press to 38.5 lbs for the Inj and it ran great. Then I notices it was getting hard to start, so I put the fuel guage on and sure enough I'm pushin 80 psi on the back tank and over 100 on the front. I did verify my guage with another so I know this is accurate. I bought a new bbk regulator and got it on this morning and no change. So this makes me think it could be my return system not working correctly. Anybody think that could be it? There's not really anything else it can be. Can anyone describe to me how the switch tank works? I'm thinking something might have came loose and plugged the return. I didn't do anything to the return in the tanks when I had the unit out. I'm stumped...any help would be appreciated.

That's a b*tch! I've wondered why they aren't configured the way your attempting to do it, in the first place. Maybe this is why! It implies some additional restriction prior to or at the valve or as you suggest, the return. do you think reimplementing a correct psi rail pump would correct the situation?

Well I'm not sure...there really isn't anything different from a 90 and newer style. The pressure is just being produced in the tank than on the rail. What I'm confused about is it worked after I got it all together, I had 38 psi until left it sit in the shop a night, then it started actin stoopid. I'm just wondering if something got plugged in the tank switch mechanism and isn't letting the return fuel back to the tank.

That only seems logical, however "Ford's" and "logic" sometimes don't play well together! But you have to start somewhere & that would be to rule out the most probable. Maybe you'll find a goober wedged in the valve intake orifice!

Ok heres a stupid question....and I dunno why it would be wrong, I have had to put different fuel lines on it from when I had a mustang engine in it but even before I did the fuel pumps I didnt mess with any of the fuel lines on the engine, which port on the fuel rail is the presssure IN? Is it the port thats directly under the regulator or is it the port thats farther back behind the upper intake? I ask becuase my press IN from the filter is going to the one behind the intake, not the one under the regulator. Now call me crazy but that seems bass akwards. Seems to me that the press IN should be going directly to the regulator. Another note...when I try to adjust the press on the regulator, it will not adjust...as in...I turn the adjuster and nothing happens either way, even when I connect and disconnect the vacuum line. Seems fishy to me, like the two fuel lines should be switched.

If I wasn't in my "Sunday almost best" & on my way out the door, I'd crawl under and look. Your going to have to wait til some of the boys pull their heads out of the feed trough! Sorry, Happy thanksgiving! Regulator plumbed in the right direction?

take the return line off and put it in a bucket and recheck...the line should flow heavy...is the regulator you just bought adjustable?

Oh yeah it's a bbk with a guage port. I didn't go cheap on it. I'll have to check the return tomorrow.

I was going to say....I have only used the BG kind and those are very nice...at 80.00 for a regulator it ought to be...

Honestly I dont know what would block the return line unless a hose collapsed internally....

Well this bbk wasn't cheap either it ran me 100, summit didn't have much to choose from. It's nice tho, a lot nicer than the one I had on it before.

I'm pretty stumped too, that's why I was asking about which port the fuel feed should be on the rail, because the way it's on right now seems backwards. I looked at our 94 and it's all together different. I can't think of anything else that would cause the trouble.
