I've used plain old bearing grease, high temp red grease and this last time, I used a molly grease that we use on the ambulances. Couldn't tell you exactly what that grease was called. It's all we use at the ambulance shop.

I use some black high pressure grease, it says wheel bearings on the applications listed on the tube, It was cheap so we bought a case, wtf it is I dunno for sure. I always pack bearings with a ziploc bag, I put in a glob of grease, drop in the bearing, and knead the outside of the bag to force grease into the bearing, then fish it out and install it, that way saves grease in the bag for next time, and keeps most of the grease off my hands.
I hate greasy hands because they always make my nose itch.

Lol. I use a bearing packer with a grease gun. Fast and easy.

How do you guys clean up you're bearings? For as long as I can remember with cars and trailers I've wiped off the old stuff, use brake clean and blown out the rest with an air gun (not spinning the bearing) and either repacked with my hand or the zip lock way.

I've never cleaned them. If I pull them, I replace them.

We have a crap paint gun here, we fill with lacquer thinner and use instead of brake clean.

At work we wash them in varsol, then blow gun and re pack. At work we go through 250k in bearings every six months, if we can save a few, we'll try.

I like to re-use bearings depending on the abuse they have had. Most of my trailers don't always get loaded to the max and only get a few 100 miles a year and I can get maybe 5-6 years from a pair. The boat trailer gets the most attention with marine grease.

But I like the paint gun idea, I have an old siphon feed one that would be perfect for that.

I would double check that torque sequence given the problems your having. Also.. jeffsbroncograveyard has spindles.
