so i recently installed a short throw shifter in my truck and i forgot to put the foam insulation thing back and there was a small breeze coming in through my boot inwhich i taped it off....just wondering if its safe to not have it on there?

Yes, the thing that always gets destroyed and doesn't stop the air like it's supposed to. That's all it does.

yeah thats my problem...i just had my cat welded on and am afraid its the air coming through the crack...the pipe is in the other pipe though like its not just welded together ....its like one pipe inside the other then welded together ...if that makes anysence?

 

A great way to test for exhaust leaks & clear your combustion chamber deposits at the same time is a Seafoam treatment. https://www.f150forum.com/f33/how-se...-1991-a-31505/ Allow 15-20 mins. soak time before restarting.
Skip adding it to the crankcase unless you want to de-sludge your engine also (which is a good idea also).


Even if you don't find a leak (if you have any, you'll see em/ check your manifolds too), your idle quatity will improve & you'll have better throttle response when it's over.

 

You've got a boot don't you? That's the final seal for the air.

 

ya i got a boot but i have a hurst short throw, and theres a gap at the top of the boot where the air comes in
