flywheels
I have an AOD from an inline 6 (300). I wanna bolt it to my 351. Which flexplate do i need? Can i use 351 flexplate on AOD converter?

you need to use a 351 flexplate AND converter....for a TRUCK...they are different from the 6 cylinder to the V8 and car and truck....
any missmatch on parts results in a busted pump on the AOD...I learn this the hard way and 1,200.00 later....

The 4.9L is internally balanced and the 5.0L and 5.8L are externally balanced engines.
The 4.9L flex-plate and/or flywheel cannot be used on a V-8 engine.
It will bolt up, but the engine will vibrate above 1500 RPM with the non-balanced 4.9L flex-plate installed.
Your 351ci engine must be a 351W (Windsor) to bolt to the 4.9L AOD transmission,
because the 351M (Modified) has a different rear bolt hole pattern than a 300/351W.
I am sure you already know this!
NO you buy a AOD convertor for a 351....only way to do it right...
the flexplates and converters have different depths and MUST be match together....
you CANNOT use a 302 flywheel on a 351 converter or vice versus...I did this myself and broke 3 front pumps...
I had a 83 F100 with a 5.0L AOD and the trany went south...bought a car AOD on a 302 and used the cars converter and the trucks original flywheel...I drove the car to the truck....
swapped the tranny...truck never moved...went and got a AOD out of a Van with a 351w...same deal...I took both trannys in and got them rebuilt...same deal..neither worked...
Finally I towed the truck to the tranny shop and they caught it...1,200.00 later i got a tranny and a truck that moved...this was the Stupid thing Ford did...the flexplates look Identical but are 1/8in depth different and the convertor offsets that depth...
you either crush the pump when the convertor balloons or it can pop out of the snout stripping the pump flange...I am glad I had the first...pump was cheaper than the metal grit in the tranny...

Ok, im not slow or nothin but i just wanna double check here, cause i got alot of opinions about this subject elsewhere.....
There is no way i can use the stuff i have to make it work?
The 351 had an e4od. The aod is on a 300.

How about this?
Buy a new FLEX-PLATE and Torque Converter for the AOD transmission that fits a 351W V-8 engine.
Seems like that might work.
