Default Fault Codes??

Question to the guys that know stuff:

Can there ever be fault codes present without an associated "Check Engine" light?

(Discounting a problem with the indicator circuit such as an open/missing indicator lamp)

yes codes can be present without the light on, usually ones that are not motor threatening,
but if your noticing the motor acting up, or maybe your MPG has dropped horribly you should check your codes.

you can check them easily, ive never done anything like it before and this is the first car ive owned that was new enough to have a computer haha, its actually quite simple, and there is a sticky up top on how to do it.

Good luck!

The check engine light should come on when the key is first turned on regardless.

Im not having any issues withe Big Brownie. The check engine light works fine and I have a interagator. I had to work on clearing a ton of them when i rebuilt it.

I notice alot of guys here will say "check for codes", I always thought, why check for codes if the check engine light works and its not on? I thought that in this case checking for codes is futile. But alas... I am mistaken...that is my reason for asking... thanks guys...
