What's the difference in my 96 e4od behind my 5.8, and the ones behind the 460 and 7.3?

I would think the 8.8 can handle a decent amount.
bigger axles, heavier springs, brakes, your tranny is NOT the same they have HD e4od's or they have a zf5 for manual trans. but your right they dont have much more towing than an f150, but it is still more than the f150 can handle,

you have to remember these trucks were built when the emissions bull was new and very restrictive, and they were not having an all out horsepower and towing capacity war that the companies are having now. HELL my 06 superduty barely has more than a new 2014 f150 has. and the new f250/350's are stupid high, they beat what a f450/550 would tow in our year trucks.

I was just wondering. Kinda want to make my f150 a heavy duty half ton lol. Not now, but one day. It tows 7k ok, but I want a little better handling. Brakes aren't an issue, trailer brakes can stop the truck and load by themselves.

legally you cant. but you will need the 10.25 rear axle, 250 spring packs, and the transmission probably will need upgraded all together to be safe. the engine can kind of handle the weight but it wont go very fast lol, 4.10 gears will help it though.
